Newsletter March 2


Math Workshop:

We continued working on Module 5 this week. Module 5 involves addition and subtraction within 1,000 and word problems to 100.  This week we focused on different using strategies to subtract. We took a topic c quiz over subtraction. We will not be assessing over Module 5 until next week. Any additional practice at home will greatly benefit your child.
Language Workshop:

This week we used Dr. Seuss books: Cat in the Hat, The Sleep Book, Wacky Wednesday, Hooray for Hair, and Fox in Socks as our mentor texts. We reviewed onomatopoeia (sound words), sensory details, and author's craft to identify rhyming words. The students had a great time using Dr. Seuss books to review different skills.

March 12th-16th: Spring Break

March 20th: Traditional Parent/Teacher Conferences (If you wish to sign up for one.)

March 22nd: Student led Showcase Night (If you do not want a traditional conference)

Reading Workshop:

This week we introduced adjectives (describing words). The students used Dr. Seuss mentor texts to dig back into the book and highlight adjectives throughout the story. The student’s did great with this new skill!
Writing Workshop:

This week we started opinion writing. We reviewed the differences between facts and opinions. The students selected a topic from “The Best List” and began working through the 5 steps of the writing process.
